America's richest counties are mostly clustered around just three major cities: Washington, DC, San Francisco and New York, which also have the highest cost of living. 7 of the top 20 richest counties are in the DC area alone, 4 are in the New York area, and 4 are in the Bay Area.

And once again Loudoun County, Virginia takes the top spot with the highest median household income by far and second lowest poverty rate. Loudoun County lies about 25 miles west of Washington, DC and is home to Washington-Dulles International Airport and the largest concentration of internet data centers in the world. Its strategic location and high paying jobs at private companies like Verizon, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon have made it not only the wealthiest but one of the fastest growing counties in America for the last 3 decades.

Santa Clara and San Mateo counties in California, both home to Silicon Valley tech giants, climbed in the rankings to snag the #2 and 3 spots.
